2023 Q2: KLIF Wheels Show Opening's Partisan Snark Tilts at 81% Against Republicans
2023 May 6

The second quarter has now passed since David El Attrache and John Ingram became the hosts-in-name-only of Wheels with Ed Wallace. As such, it seems a good time to take another measure of the partisan balance of the show opening.

In the previous Q1 partisan snark analysis (November 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023), Ed Wallace’s Wheels show opening was exposed as a nakedly partisan exercise that derided Republicans 100% of the time over those three months. The addition of the two co-hosts tilted the show opening further to the left than its already distorted 92% pro-Democrat presentation. If one looks at the bright side of this situation, with the partisan tilt already maxed at 100% for Q1, listeners are for once guaranteed that the partisan balance could not be worse for the subsequent quarter.

The following table shows the raw data for Q2 that is used for the analysis. It includes just the partisan snark targets within the show’s opening. Omitted from the table are apolitical musings, faux self-deprecating asides, and snark targets with an ambiguous political association.

As per the above categorization, the partisan tilt against Republicans decreased to 81%.

While this quarter appears slightly more balanced, this is a mirage. Ed Wallace never lampoons his political allies in a manner that impugns the policies of his fellow Democrats/Socialists.

When targeting Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Wallace mocks her deflections of responsibilities for a skiing accident.

“Actress Gwyneth Paltrow explaining how a skiing accident she caused felt like a sexual assault from a guy she hit.”

When targeting 2024 Presidential Candidate Robert Kennedy Jr., Wallace tosses an untethered insult at him. Based upon the news that was contemporary with this snark, one could speculate that Wallace is displeased with Kennedy’s challenge to Biden in the 2024 presidential primary.

And as for targeting President Joe Biden, it took over three years into his presidency for Wallace to even mention the President’s name within the show’s opening. And when he does, Wallace references an event that occurred over four months prior to his snark, which was the emergence of the ”Let’s Go Brandon” meme.

“Today’s special guest… President Joe Biden… with his new autobiography I’m with Brandon.

Many times on air, he recounts an anecdote that allows Ed Wallace to fancy himself as the Edward R Murrow of Dallas. The reality is that Ed Wallace is the Kelli Stavast of Dallas, who is the NBC sportscaster whose blatant on-air misinformation launched the “Let’s Go Brandon” meme.
